Is polystyrene recyclable?

One question we hear frequently is whether or not our polystyrene foam products are recyclable. While most people seem to believe that foam is not recyclable, our products can be processed, converted into pellets, and reused to make new foam products. In fact, we even recycle our pre-consumer products internally, meaning our manufacturing operations produce minimal amounts of polystyrene waste.

Republic Plastics’s polystyrene products require less energy to produce than paper containers, leading to reduced emissions. Although there is a lot of misinformation out there about polystyrene, it is actually chemically inert, and there is no scientific evidence that links its use with any adverse health effects.
